Almost half (49%) of young drivers surveyed were keen to go back to driving school to learn more about electric vehicles (EVs), compared with 44% of drivers of all ages. Londoners were also more interested than average, with 53% of the capital’s drivers interested in an EV driving lesson.
From March 2022, the AA Driving School will offer lessons in electric cars like the Peugeot e208 and Vauxhall Corsa-e. It’s also calling on the government to include more info about EVs in the Highway Code, as 2030’s ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars moves closer.
Mark Oakley, the AA Driving School’s interim managing director, said: “As we head towards 2030, more and more learners will be starting their driving life in an EV. We know there are lots of myths and misconceptions about driving EVs that are stopping some drivers from making the switch.
Having the opportunity to take a lesson with an instructor in an EV could be a really useful way for many drivers to overcome their concerns and see that driving an EV is a great option for them and the environment.”
